installation process

w"ith most Internet providers, you're lucky to get a CD-ROM in the mail. Our standard installation, however, is full-service: we place an additional cable outlet in the room where your computer is, install a 10BaseT Ethernet card in your computer, ensure the cable modem is working properly, load and configure web browser and email software, and provide basic training.

When you call us to schedule your installation, we'll provide you with a two-hour window for our installer to arrive at your home. As part of Time Warner Cable's On-Time Guarantee, if our installer does not arrive during this window, your Road Runner installation is free. It's important to note that the installer may not finish the installation during this window; in most cases, your installation will require two hours to complete once the installer arrives.

Whether you choose our standard installation or opt to perform some parts of the installation yourself, we highly recommend that you backup the hard disk of your computer before our installer arrives. While a hard disk failure during installation is very unlikely, better safe than sorry. You may also wish to insure that your computer's chassis is easily accessible, since we will usually need to remove all the cabling and open the case to install the 10BaseT Ethernet card.

It's also important to understand that when we wire the additional cable outlet as part of the standard installation, we must drill a hole into the room either through an outside wall or through the floor from a crawlspace. If you wish to have the new cable outlet installed on an interior wall or in an upper-floor room, you will need to order a wallfish. Wallfishes cost $50 and, because they take longer to install, letting us know you need one when we schedule your installation will allow us to better serve all of our subscribers.
